Neglected Spaces

Every homeowner wants to raise the value of their home, or at least make it stand out in the neighborhood. The usual focal points are the bedroom and bathroom, as these are the areas that buyers hold in highest esteem. Still, the lack of balance in priorities creates a house where two or three rooms are pretty enough to end up on a magazine, while the rest of the house looks like a sty.

One of the rooms people almost never think of improving is the garage. There are some reasons homeowners neglect treating this area the same way as the rest of the house, even though contractors like recommend it.

The garage is a structure that houses a vehicle to both keep it off the streets and protect it from the harsh weather. There are actually two cases for garage improvement in that one sentence. First, people love showing off a new car. Nevertheless, what good is a shiny new sports car when it’s stored in a dingy oil pit every night?

A dirty and rundown garage definitely negates any appeal the car might have, as well as exposing it to dust and dirt that could make its paint fade faster. The worst-case scenario is that dirt and dust accumulate in its systems and cause some kind of blockage.

The second point is that garages, just like houses, are protective structures. It’s supposed to keep rain, snow, and intense sunlight from negatively affecting the vehicle. That’s not going to happen if the people owning the garage spent too much money on chrome faucets, and can’t afford to patch the holes in the roof.

Homeowners don’t have to renovate their garages if they don’t want to. The point is, just don’t concentrate on improving one part of the house, and neglect the other rooms. This is a common mistake that homeowners make to this day.
